A view from 1939:
DUPUYER, (4,050 alt., 45 pop.), a supply point for
stock ranches, came into existence as a stage stop on the bull
freight route between Fort Benton and Fort Browning. Its name
is from the French depouille, a word applied by trappers and
explorers to the back fat of the buffalo, a delicacy esteemed
by both Indian and white.
