A view from 1939:
BABB, (4,460 alt., 25 pop.), has tourist
cabins, a general store, and a post office. It was settled
in 1912 as headquarters for the Reclamation Service project
that diverted water from St. Mary River, which drains into
Hudson Bay, across the Hudson Bay Divide to the Milk River
for irrigation purposes.
